We would never leave Ruby with anyone else! Laurie and staff were so detail oriented, caring, and fantastic with Ruby, and us :)) The Resort, is homey and impeccably clean. Really couldn't ask for more, highly recommend!
My 4 year old Golden Retriever mix had his first day of camp at Lucky Dog today and I couldn't be happier to find this place! The facility is awesome and so is the staff! Looking forward to leaving my boy here for more stays in the future!
Leaving a 6 month old puppy is very tough and I had decided to forgo a short vacation rather than chance a trip to Scotland but then I found Lucky Dog. Suffice it to say both dog and I had great (albeit separate) vacations.
Laurie and her team are enthusiastic and thoughtful. Their caring approach is awesome. I could relax and our puppy seems to have had a tremendous time.
We both recommend Lucky Dog and give it 5 out of 5 .
We were in town for a wedding weekend and heard of Lucky Dog through a local friend in the area. From the start, they were super communicative and descriptive on how the boarding would work. During our dog's stay, the team's response time was lightning fast and always giving us updates on our pup with pictures. Would recommend for anyone who needs help in the area.
Lucky Pet Resort is a haven for dogs. Our dog Lucky spent a very happy morning at Lucky Pet Resort while we attended services at the Naval Base. Laurie, the owner, is a lovely person who went out of her way to accommodate our scheduling needs. Angela was very helpful and Greg was just wonderful with Lucky
Laurie and the gang are outright amazing! They took the best care of our dog, Baio as well as made our wedding weekend worry-free and stress-free. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, thank you so much!
Rascal is an 8 year old collie who has attended various day cares wherever we have lived and has always quickly welcomed the social interaction with other dogs and people. The luxurious surroundings are merely a backdrop for the skilled care that the staff provide. Laurie's staff quickly picked up on Rascal's difficulty adjusting to day care this time alerting me to her anxiety. As a writer and someone who relies on the ability to keenly perceive other beings reactions I had missed how a sudden decline in my health had impacted on Rascal. Laurie and her staff helped me realize that whatever we are going through can greatly impact our canine companions well being. I am greatly appreciative of Laurie and her staffs' attention to detail and the ability to meet Rascals psycho social needs and helping Rascal be more relaxed and social again by providing a stable routine and environment.

Lucky Dog was great for our recent weekend trip to Newport! Our dog Finn was tired for 2 whole days after his stay - the sign of a good time. The house is very cool and all dog friendly. We got awesome pictures of him sleeping on beds and playing on couches with his new furry friends. If you are in the area and don't want to have a worry about your dog, Lucky Dog is the place to go.
Above and beyond, and then beyond again.
We have boarded our two Huskies (Ally and Zelda) at Lucky Dog several times. They love it there and always come back relaxed and happy. The team at Lucky Dog clearly loves them, knows them, and has taken some amazing pictures of them and shared them with us.
This past visit, however, went from just great to life-saving. Shortly after the dogs got there, one of the staff noticed that Zelda wasn't acting herself: she was lethargic, having difficulty breathing, and running a fever. Elaine contacted us immediately and went with her to the vet. She stayed with her there for the initial diagnosis. When the local vet referred Zelda to a hospital, Laurie took Zelda there herself, stayed with her through the intake process, and spoke with us by video-chat so that we could see how Zelda was doing.
Even after Zelda had been admitted and we were back home, Laurie stayed in touch, genuinely concerned about how Zelda was doing. (After two days of hospitalization in the ICU for pneumonia, Zelda is safely back home and reunited with her sister.)
Laurie, Elaine, and the rest of the team at Lucky Dog clearly care for Zelda as a lot more than just a "client." They know our dogs well enough to know and notice when something isn't right. And they went the extra mile to ensure Zelda got life-saving care and we stayed fully informed. We are incredibly grateful.
Lucky Dog Resort truly took care of my fur-baby. Even with my little guy being a grumpy old man I was so surprised on how fast he was able to feel at ease. Lucky Dog pampered my Gizmo while he stayed overnight and would send me pictures/videos of him having a blast!
The location is well gated, maintained and no funny dog odors. Staff is friendly, loving and courteous. I would highly recommend them and if I'm ever in the area I will definitely use them again!!
I am overly protective of my Carson, as he is both a service animal and my little furry friend. When he needs some time to go be a dog with other dogs, or we need a place for him to go when we leave and can't take him, we like to have a place scouted out in preparation.
Our first time using Lucky Dog was when we moved here, and didn't think it was wise having Carson underfoot while the movers were in and out of the house. Carson had a great time, and made friends with another short and nervous dog, and they had a grand time tentatively adventuring together.
The second time we used Lucky Dog, we had a day trip and were taking the ferry, for which I didn't need Carson's services. Once again he had a fun time, and they even sent me a video of him and photos of him with his Corgi buddy.
We have scheduled Carson to stay with Lucky Dog over the holidays, and I feel confident he will be happy and safe there. The staff is friendly and it's obvious they love dogs, and the location is safe, secure, and super clean. Laurie and her husband have been so helpful and nice, and their online scheduler makes these things so easy.
Prices are competitive, and there is something for everyone. There's daycare, boarding, wedding support and more. There's the house for boarding guests to feel at home, and individual rooms in the back for dogs who just need a little time alone or are not neutered. This place is so great, I just wish there was a place like Lucky Dog everywhere we move!
While visiting Newport I left my Westie here twice for day-care. The facility was very clean and wonderfully set up to accommodate all kinds of dogs. The owner is kind, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a safe pleasant experience for the dog. My dog came back to me relaxed and happy, clearly having had a great day.
Overall this place was good. Staff was friendly. My dog seemed well taken care of. I took away 1 star because they seem too focused on internet based stuff and less personal interaction. I listed a 12pm pickup time on my reservation. I picked up my dog at 1230 and was charged a $33 late pick up fee. I called the manager and she stated that after the clock hits 12, the computer charges you a day boarding fee. No one went over this at check in. It does state it on their website, but there is so much information on the sites. There are a ton of hidden fees you need to be aware of. I have boarded at other places and they always go over rules and clarify check out at check in. Would I board there again....yes, but I may check out a place that is more personable. For a small business, it had a very corporate / franchise feel.
We came to Newport recently for a wedding, a bit nervous about leaving our four month old puppy for the first time. Turns out, Maizie was a lucky dog indeed! Laurie and her staff are amazing and the setting is remarkably clean and beautiful. We are now trying to come up with a vacation plan in the North East, just to use Lucky dog again!
We came to the Newport area from out of town for a weekend and were so glad that our dog Barnie could stay with Laurie and her team at Lucky Dog Resort. She updated us by email during the weekend and he had a great time socializing with the staff and other dogs. He was happy, healthy, and worn out when we picked him up after his 2-day stay!
Laurie, and her team at Lucky Dog Resort, are simply fantastic. Our dogs love staying here! They get so excited when we pull into the parking lot! Not only do they get excited, they are well cared for during their stay as well. Also, the facility is impeccably clean!
One of the top boarding facilities we've ever used.
Thank you to Laurie and her team! I used Lucky Dog for many days of my vacation while we went to the beach. I appreciate their flexibility because I'm a last minute person. My beagle, Don, was pooped when he got home and had the best nights sleep after he left. I felt very comfortable leaving my pooch with them for extended periods.
My only advice would be for them to maybe text pics or updates on the dogs. Possibly some sort of "report card" at the end of the day?
This place is MAGICAL!!!! I would recommend this business to absolutely EVERYONE I know! We recently got married in Newport, RI (July 22, 2017) and we decided to use Lucky Dog Resort to watch our baby (a female doberman) and to escort her to and from our wedding ceremony! What a flawless and wonderful experience. Our dog Daisy is essentially our human child- we would never trust her with just anyone!!! Upon arrival I toured the facility and was very pleasantly surprised to find an extremely well decorated, clean and very well run facility. They showed me the different rooms, introduced me to the other dog guests and paid close attention to detail as I went over daisy's routine and food schedule. Daisy LOVED her stay at Lucky Dog! She was cage free, happy, sleeping in a real bed with people, got plenty or exercise out in the yard with other dogs and playing ball and even made few friends and a boyfriend during her stay! I got MANY many updates via text with descriptions of daisy's play day and pictures/ videos of her stay- including her interactions with the other sweet dogs staying there. I can't even explain how thankful I was to have Laurie Ruttenberg as her pet sitter/ escort during our wedding. She arrived early, brought daisy to our wedding ceremony and assisted with getting her ready to walk down the aisle, sat in the audience during the processional and held her off to the side during our ceremony. Laurie came to our event in wedding appropriate clothing so she would not stand out. She was EXTREMELY professional, loving and helpful. She even stayed after the ceremony to escort Daisy during our professional photos and went above and beyond- she even sent me some of her own photos that she had taken in the background so we could see a preview of our professional photos. I got to enjoy my wedding weekend because I knew our baby was in excellent care. This was the best experience I've ever had with any pet sitter. Laurie is incredible- she made us feel like she was a family member watching our Daisy! She treated our dog as if she was her own. Anyone would be truly lucky to send their dog to the Lucky Dog Resort. Everything about this facility is EXCELLENT. I highly recommend it.
Laurie was absolutely incredible! She watched Eva during our wedding weekend, brought her to the rehearsal, and to the wedding. We could tell she really enjoyed working with the dogs, and Eva was very happy. We definitely recommend you use Lucky Dog.
Wow! The wedding valet services that Laurie offers are beyond stellar. As a wedding planner and a dog mom, I can honestly say Lucky Dog does not only care for your pet like their own but does a wonderful job on the day of the wedding. I highly highly recommend this service to any and every bride who wants their fur-baby to be part of the wedding day!
Lucky Dog Resort is absolutely amazing! We never leave our dogs at your average kennel... So vacationing can be an issue sometimes. But once we saw Lucky Dog & learned about what it is really was, we knew that we were all set for vacation! Laurie seemed to love my girls (as well as all of the dogs that I saw her with)! Laurie also kept me update to for the entire duration of my vacation! She sent me numerous photos of my girls & even sent me a video of one of my dogs (Roxy) & had a voice to voice contact with me when Roxy got nervous & started wheezing. Anyways, love this place! Will definitely take the girls here again!
My dog spent two nights and two days at Lucky Dog. When I came to pick him up, along with my mom's dog who also stayed the same amount of time - we were met by Laurie in the yard and it was unfortunately not the best exchange. We had just gotten married, and were really excited to see the Resort, and to pick up our pup. We were met with an anxious Resort owner who was abrupt, and couldn't wait to get paid an extra $75 and get our dogs off her hands. I was so disappointed because I had read and heard such good things about the Resort, however thanks to the awful customer service we received when picking up our boys - we won't be returning. Such a shame.. Never once received an update on how my dog was doing, or how he was when I picked him up. I wasn't even invited in to see where my dog and his friend had just spent the weekend. It was bizarre to say the least.
It's hard to find a place/people that will care for your pet they way you'd like, and even more difficult to find a place that follows that with good business practices. Lucky Dog has both. From the moment we dropped our pup off for the initial greeting, we felt we were in great hands with Laurie. She is super responsive to messages, flexible with drop-off/pickup times, and isn't out to make a buck. She truly loves what she does and it's evident. The entire staff goes out of their way to answer my (probably neurotic) questions and always provides me with a report on my pup at the end of the day.
This is the only place I feel comfortable "boarding" my dog, also, as he can't handle being in a crate without hurting himself. The staff at Lucky Dog are truly great people!
If you are looking for a place to "board" your dog while you are going away or just a place for day Lucky dog resort is the place. I can't say enough good things about this resort. Very professional, very clean, outstanding care of the dogs. My dog is always so happy to get there which is for me a sign that she loves the place and she has a good time. I didn't want a regular boarding where dogs are just a number. This place is a home away from home for our furry pets. I will highly recommend this place to any dog owner who is as picky as I'm with leaving my dog. Definitely a A+
